Where I’ve Been?

My journey in becoming a therapist was not a straight line. Starting out college as a pre-chiropractic major, I quickly learned that path was not the right fit for me. After a bit of research and speaking with fellow classmates and professors, I transferred into NDSU’s Child Development and Family Science program, which was a much better fit. After graduating, I started working at a childcare center and eventually became a lead teacher in a preschool room. I truly enjoyed my time working with the children and their families, but knew I could reach people in a different way through counseling.

After graduate school, I started my career at a community-based mental health agency. We provided therapy to both children and adults in a variety of settings. Following my position within the community-based sector, I joined a mental health clinic where I continued my passion to help children and adults become the best version of themselves. In this role, I was able to work alongside doctors and medical providers, and as a team we offered a full spectrum, integrative health approach.

Our Why.

My partners and I agree that seeking help for your mental health should feel as normal as seeking medical help. As humans, we all go through ups and downs during our lives. Our role as counselors is to help during seasons of your life in which things tend to be more difficult. We, at Embark, are here to help.

How I Help.

Often described by former clients as “relatable but tells you like it is,” you will feel a sense of security upon stepping into my office. This allows you to feel comfortable and makes for an open, honest environment. As a counselor, I know everyone is going through their own set of challenges. I want to meet you wherever you are in this season of your life—to help you work through your struggles and celebrate your wins. When feeling stuck, you can rest assured that I’ll be with you as we explore your path together. Struggles in life present themselves differently depending on age. Children express their feelings in a much different manner than adults. While my approach differs from children to adolescents and teens to adults, my goal remains the same: meet you where you are with an unbiased opinion.

My approach to each client is a customizable therapy plan that is unique to you. Through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques and strategies, I am able to explore negative thinking patterns. In addition, mindfulness and meditation strategies coupled with basic yoga techniques are used to help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. And for children, play is incorporated in a constructive, meaningful way.

A Bit About Me.

I currently reside in Sioux Falls with my husband, two children, and bulldog. In my free time you’ll find me practicing yoga, reading, listening to true crime podcasts, camping, and spending time with friends and family. Although not native to the area, we have called Sioux Falls our home for over 10 years and couldn’t imagine raising our family anywhere else. We truly love this city and its people. For this reason, I want to continue to use my qualifications for what makes this community great: people helping people, meeting them where they are, and working on progress over perfection.
